ABOUT D
D/Dani (they/them) is a dynamic genderqueer Japanese-Irish-American channel for spirit, drawing on over a decade of dedicated study across diverse healing practices and modalities. As an Okuden Reiki II practitioner, D's offerings are steeped in ancestral traditions, emphasizing the profound belief that true healing begins within the body and the recognition of one’s inner wisdom.
Committed to personal and collective liberation, D advocates for the exploration and integration of spiritual and cultural ancestral practices as essential tools for transformation. They challenge the prevailing systems of capitalism, colonization, and imperialism, illuminating a path toward collective resilience and empowerment.
As a shadow worker, D embraces the complexities of grief and death, allowing these experiences to inform their holistic approach to healing. Their practice honors a rich lineage of traditions — weaving together ancestral elements of Buddhism and Shinto, alongside learnings from their Indigenous and Black teachers — with a deep commitment to community work, liberatory healing methods, and abolitionist principles. D invites you to join them in a grounded and protected journey toward authenticity, healing, and transformation.
Brief Personal History
D was raised Jodo Shinshu Buddhist in a close knit Japanese American community, where they first learned the invaluable power of interdependence, service, and community; D continues their temple involvement today as a Dharma School teacher for their temples youth. Raised by their Japanese grandparents while their father was incarcerated, in their grandparents garden is where D first learned the magic of nature spirits, animals, and tending the land. They are guided by the wisdom of their Great Uncle, who was a Shinto priest and tended their villages shrine in Southern Japan, their Grandpa Kiyo and his master gardener skills, the strength of their ancestors who worked the land as some of the first farmworkers in California’s Central Valley, their wise and ancient Celtic ancestors, as well as their many other guides and protector beings.
Because of personal experience, D is deeply committed to healing, repair, reconnection, and transformation with self and others. Today, they continue to lovingly reparent themselves in ways they never received.
D’s path in this life as a healer was unplanned and began with healing themselves. They’ve walked a rigorous path of tending to severe traumas, spirit fractures, soul loss, and trans-generational pains for over a decade. What first began as a practice of survival blossomed into a fulfilling life path. D is so grateful for all the wisdom that’s been unearthed, for all who have taught and supported them along the path, and for the privilege to share this with others.
As someone who is system impacted, D is experienced in working with system impacted people and helping them examine and unlearn harmful ways of thinking and engaging with the world. D knows first-hand that abolition begins inside ourselves. Everything they bring to a session has been practiced over and over on themselves first. They believe the best healer is someone who is deeply dedicated to self healing, in reverence to the lifelong process. D does not take their role as a community healing practitioner lightly; they hold it with great humility and honor.
